Went out with the family to see the new "Cats and Dogs" movie. It wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be, and at least it was cool inside the theater. Hot as hell here this week!!!
After the movie, my wife posed the question of going out to dinner. I agreed, quickly coming up with a plan to stay safe, especially since my gut has been a little "off" the past few days. Our options quickly dwindled, and I wasn't in the mood for "Bob Evans" where I would order plain eggs and fruit. We agreed on sushi, even though rice and seaweed are NOT SCD legal. I skipped the soy sauce because of the gluten, but I'm cramping pretty badly now. I'm on the fence of whether it was worth it or not, because it was GOOD sushi and I was proud of my son for being a little adventurous. My daughter is all about the veggie sushi though! For 6 and 7, they are both pretty awesome IMHO.
Anyway, I'm going to call it a night for food, and hope for the best during the night. Tomorrow is a new SCD day! :)

Serendipity
Tonight I stood cramped into a corner at a local bookstore while my kids watched the presentation on reptiles that we came for. I love this bookstore - it's a not-for-profit (Boxcar Books) with a mixture of new and used books. As I started looking around at the nearby books, I saw Breaking the Vicious Cycle which I've been wanting and saw it was like new but only five bucks! It's now next in my reading queue!
My first prosciutto
I've been doing pretty good health-wise recently, but yesterday and today have had a few symptoms indicating the possibility of a flare onset. I'm trying to take it easy today and make sure I'm sticking strictly to the SCD. Last night at the local Co-op, I purchased my first prosciutto (you can only stare at something curiously at the store so many times before trying it) and a small yellow watermelon among other things. So for lunch today, I took three of the six paper-thin slices of ham and wrapped around small pieces of the melon. Pure heaven. Of course I had a bowl more of the watermelon sans ham. Both the prosciutto and melon are organic, and the ham is free of any fillers or anything else. Even though it is expensive, we buy organic whenever possible because of ethics/farm management as well as health. The ham was certainly rich, with the three small slices equalling 90 calories, so it will be an occasional treat since fatty foods can hurt my gut.

WELCOME!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I'm going to use this as my journaling, networking, ranting, and organizing space for everything IBD. I plan to share videos from time to time from my Youtube vlog (IBDvlogger). I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease (but my symptoms are closer to Ulcerative Colitis) in May, 2009 and have really struggled to find out practical information on my illness that isn't just over-generalized fluff pushing specific pharmaceuticals.
I've spent the past year trying to hide this as much as possible, but I'm ready to break out of this shame spiral and hope to meet other folks with similar issues and interests. I don't plan a specific format, but hope to focus on coping strategies and my journey with the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) and anything else that I can find out that works!
Please drop me a line - I'd love to hear from you!
